Lake Afdera
Lake Afdera [Lake Afrera], located in the Afar region, Ethiopia. It is a supper saturated saline Lake located in the Danakil Depression, lying below a sea level with the lowest point at –112m and has a surface area of 140km2. It is a major source of salt extraction in Ethiopia, where the Lake water is pumped to saltpans for solar evaporation.
The Lake is home for endemic fish species, including two endemics: Danakilia frenchettii (a child) and Lebias stiassnyae (a pupfish) and other living organisms.
A salt lake or saline lake is a landlocked body of water that has a concentration of salts (typically sodium chloride) and other dissolved minerals significantly higher than most lakes (often defined as at least three grams of salt per litre).
The Lake is fed by underground streams.

Saline has many uses in medicine. It’s used to clean wounds, clear sinuses, and treat dehydration.
